Here are some little haiku and a one-liner that I wrote earlier this year.
--- ---
Plateau
Blooming sun--close, bright--
heats prickly pear and blackbrush,
warms red summer sand.
Fallen Leaf
Wind against my face.
Gnats swarm in fading daylight
through the slatted trees.
Wilderness
Booming, crumbling snow.
Shaking glaciers make thunder
in desolation.
Study
I awoke thirsty
against the arm of the couch
with a flattened book.
Deadline
Summer's sunset lasts
longer than other seasons.
Does it have to end?
Old bridge
Across the long park bridge, its skewed boards glassy with rain.

i love these, they are beautifully evocative. i still want to do the book of haikus like ---was that carolann's idea? what i love about them is how universal they are and how anyone can write one and they can be on any subject and some of them might fall flat but some really bring about this tiny moment of pure being, like yours have here.
these are wonderful and i can taste and smell your words of the wilderness
I love 'Study'! What a great little poem! Perhaps my favorite I've read in a long long time...
I love your haikus Mattie. I have never written one, but I love them and the imagery they invoke. I can just see, feel, hear and touch each of these verses. They put me into that time and element. Maybe someday you can teach me to write one!
